3x3"
This 3x3” series came about when I was working around a busy schedule teaching elementary school art. I found time to paint early in the mornings before school. To maximize that time and to work quickly, I worked in the small format with watercolor and gouche. I mentally collected the images for the paintings on a predawn run, a late evening walk with our dog, or running errands. Working quickly, small scale forces me to concentrate, look closely, and edit carefully. These paintings became my morning meditations.
I have returned to this format as a travel series. I use gouche or pencil. The size and medium lend themselves to working when I am traveling, allowing me to observe and translate into paint what I see and experience.
Other Paintings
Works on canvas and gessoed paper, using oil or acrylic, mainly portraits and landscapes.
Drawings
Large, charcoal drawings on gessoed paper of domestic animals
